“Webcore, also known as internetcore, is a modern internet aesthetic that emerged in the late 2010s and early 2020s. It is defined by a deep sense of nostalgia for the visual and auditory language of the Old Web, including the appropriation of pixelated graphics, early 3D models, dated user interfaces like those from win95 and winXP, and the sounds of obsolete technology such as system notifications and dial-up modems. The aesthetic was popularized in 2020 following the premiere of surrealist animated series ENA (also see ENA: Dream BBQ), which visually codified many of the genre’s key elements.
